Yep, that indeed is WOW!
Very cool! However, considering that 2 of the toms are not original, what would you expect a realistic price to be for this kit? Tommyp, chime in here!!
I would say 10,000$ is a fair price considering that two of the drums were never even Buddy's.

Is Buddy smoking a cig in that pic of him on the kit??...I,d give it a 7-10k price only because of the 2 un original drums. If you,re going to pay big bucks,it all has to be right.
Very interesting... I was always curious when/if Don Bennett would offer this set for sale... must be the economy! LOL! In short...
The price does seem steep given the set is incomplete. There are some major errors in the listed timeline as well. Buddy was NOT playing this set in 1964/1965, he was with Rogers during this period and quite happy at that.. well .. there was ALWAYS the snare drum hunt with Buddy though, and he did play a custom made fiberglass snare drum built by Bob Grauso in approx. late 1965 into 1966. The drum was "disguised" as a Rogers Dynasonic, and it looked pretty good from a distance!, but he was found out and stopped playing it as he had total respect for the Rogers drum company as well as Joe Thompson, who Buddy was quite fond of. Course all that respect went right out the window when CBS bought Rogers, causing Buddy to split the Rogers drum company, as most everyone knows today. But that does bring us back here...
Buddy was playing the complete Fibes COF set in mid 1967.. ( approx. July ).. through December. Very shortly thereafter, he made his deal with Slingerland, and never played the Fibes again.. as a complete set that is. The Fibes SFT 690 COF snare drum would pop up constantly for years after, eventually causing a huge rift between Buddy and Slingerland. Anyway, it was not 1964 or 1965. I have no idea where Don Bennett came up with those dates. The snare drum with this Fibes set is the same model that I have in my collection. This one is one of the three. Notice the prototype throw? This throw really never made it to full production, as very few Fibes snare drums have it. Buddy DID like the snare drum though!.. but .. was never that fond of the bass/toms. Still, after he left Trixon/Vox he needed some drums, and it was Fibes!... for a very short time.
I have a print in my collection of that EXACT picture with Buddy playing the set, and yes, that is a cigarette he is smoking. Buddy was a HEAVY smoker throughout his entire life. I have a couple rare pics/prints from this period with Buddy playing the full Fibes COF set. There aren't that many as he didn't play then all that long... approx. 5/6 months or so... then to Slingerland where he stayed till 1976.
IMHO... the price is what it is, right? If someone ponies up the cash, it was the right price for both parties, and everybody is happy. As huge a BR fan/collector/historian that I am.. well .. not for 50K!, especially incomplete.. and .. I already have this exact model/year snare drum.. ( in near MINT condition I might add ) .. so will the next buyer step forward?! We will have to see, although I tend to have doubts.

Rumor has it Buddy didn't just smoke tobacco EVERYDAY.
Well... it ain't just rumor!... Buddy didn't drink... but let's just say he also enjoyed burnin' in addition to the cigarettes! He was a well known user, although it was kept very quiet back in the day.. ( as most things were ) .. and had Wayne mentioned the "other" type cigarette, I would have included it in my post. Saw no need to add that... but seeing as how you did...
I saw Buddy LIVE 5 times between 1973 and 1978... met him one on one in 1973.. and he WAS smoking at the time too. His ever present Kents, and... LOL!!
