That ebay one above is a nice set but if it fetches 70% or more of that asking price it would have to be chalked up to the particular condition of that set. Having followed Gretsch closely for awhile I would put blue sparkle into the same class of desireability as silver sparkle.
That is not to say that both the blue set is not very cool. It is, and blue has its fans. Plus you only have one set to sell if that's what you end up doing.
I like the cocktail set as well. There is one that just went up on ebay in white pearl you might want to watch for guidance. The white one is a bit older as it has the gladstone leg holders which I've never seen on a Gretsch cocktail drum.

And this means what exactly??? I told him to use this as a guide nothing more??

A "guide" to me is something that is useful reference. The OP is looking to value his set. Something that is overpriced is not really useful for this as it doesn't tell him anything save how to price his his set so it won't sell--unless that was the intention of "some ideas" that you wanted to give him.
It seems to me that actual sold for prices from a place like ebay are the most helpful and there is a decent amount of that info available.
The OP can refer to that info now that he knows what he has, and, conveniently, there is a cocktail drum that just came up for sale as well.

Once again, this kit I've posted for Him is only a guide, the kit has four days to auction end, and it has a best offer option, so it's a moot point at this time!!, And why don't you post some of the ended auctions, if your wanting to help the original poster here!also we don't have all the info on the original posters kit, still do not know if there are any Issues with the kit, and once again, the kit I posted for Him is only a rough guide, I watch gretsch prices very closely also, and I haven't seen a complete kit on ebay like the original posters all year SO?? once again if your helping here in some way post those ended auctions your referring to? and since I'm here to educate the members of the forum and to learn from knowledgeable members this is how you do it, the Cocktail kit is model #4183 from which consist of The cocktail drums with legs and upside down pedal and pedal bar, shell size is 26" deep with a bottom head and a 8"x5.5 bongo tom, plus a cowbell with holder and a cymbal holder.

and Knavel look at my original post, a guide is something to learn or gain knowledge by, that's my description anyway, and you have your definition, If the kit sales or doesn't sale will he the original poster have not learned something from it Yes Or NO!!!
Thanks for all the replies and feedback. It sounds like these sets are pretty valuable(3-6K depending on condition). Buyers are hard to find most likely due to the economy. I would like to sell these sets. I am not interested in trading(unless it is for a VW Black Beetle with less than 60k).
Thanks again everyone. If there is a serious interest in purchasing these from me(no trades) than please feel free to contact me. I will in the meantime clean off the dust on these and get it ready probably for EBAY.
Cheers!
If all of the drums are from the 41XXX serial number range, then the set likely dates from the mid-1960s. Can you provide the other serial numbers for confirmation? Although not everyone gives credence to Gretsch serial numbers being useful in determining drums' dates, Gretsch enthusiast John Sheridan suggested that five digit serial numbers on Round Badge drums came from the mid 1960s. This rule of thumb is mentioned in his article about badges which is posted on the Gretsch website. http://www.gretschdrums.com/?fa=historybadges I am working on taking John's work a step further and collecting information on drums like yours. That is why I am asking about the other serial numbers.
My two cents on value - I have a 13/16/20 Blue Glass Glitter Round Badge set with a few extra holes. If I were to sell it, along with my rewrapped 4157 model snare, I would be happy to get $1,500 - $2,000 for it right now. Yours is a bit nicer than mine, but not two to three times nicer. I also have an all original, no modifications, Silver Glass Glitter RB set in the more valued 12/14/20 sizes. It should be more valuable than a 13/16/20 in similar condition, and I doubt I could get $3500 for it.
