Thanks for the compliment on the kit. It is a beauty for sure. The silver sparkle finish is somewhat yellowed from playing in many a smokey room so would probably really shine with a good cleaning.

As far as the muffler on the floor tom, it resembles the one in the snare in the picture provided earlier. No red felt.

Well, that's it guys. If there are any details/pictures you would like to know/see, just ask. The throne, just in case you were wondering is my own and practically new. No idea where the original is.

Hope you like the kit because I sure do. I now await your assessment with anticipation.

Thanks.

I agree that this 1960 Ludwig set is a beauty for Luddy huggers. My personal tastes do not include Ludwig drums or silver sparkle. However, I do appreciate the Ludwig brand and products much the same way as I appreciate a Mercedes Benz with no desire to own one. The Zildjians with this set are among my all time favorites for brand, size, and vintage period. The Rogers cymbal and tom mounting hardware were probably retro fitted to virgin drum shells by the shop that sold the drums to your father. They were the state of the art in the early sixties. For me, they are still the best ever. The drums should probably be insured for $2,000 replacement value. The Zildjians should be insured for $200-$300 each. The miscellaneous hardware and cheapo hihat cymbals would be worth $200 in replacement value. The operative word here is "replacement". This takes collector's value into account along with the simple "widget" value that an insurance adjuster would want to attach to an item. If not insured for replacement value, they would try to replace a 1960 Ludwig drum set made in Chicago with a 2011 set of cheapo Asian imports from Ludwig or Pearl or Guitar Center house brand with no name crappy cymbal-like objects.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Thanks leedybdp for your assessment. I will be insuring for replacement value, definitely. Of course, they have deep sentimental value and really are irreplaceable and priceless in my eyes. Some of my first memories on this planet are of my dad jamming with his jazz band in our front room. His love of music is what caused me to start bass lessons when I was 8 yrs old, which would be 37 years ago. I started taking drum lessons about 2 years ago and I have this beautiful kit to play on whenever I want.

Not that I'm doubting you leedybdp but would everyone pretty much agree with his assessment?

Thanks again leedybdp. Cheers mate!

The snare drum is COB Ludwig Super 400. That is worth over $500 maybe as much as $1000. The Cymbals are probably worth around $400 for the set, the whole kit is probably worth north of $2000, maybe south of $3000, Very nice set. Be happy and put them in the studio, playing the tones and recording. Killer set.
