Here we have my 1958 Slingerland drum set in Light Blue Pearl finish. They sound great and are 100% ready for gigging or recording. The sizes are 13x9”, 16x16”, and 22x14” with a matching 14x5.5” 1 ply Radio King snare. PICTURES BELOW
Drums: The badges/grommets look great and there are NO extra holes. Everything functions as it should.
Snare: This is a great sounding snare that tunes up easily and has great snare response. It has great edges and drum heads fit fine. The shell is slightly out of round, however. This one has a Clamshell strainer with Puresound snare wires. Re-ring separation is present but not what I would consider major. The clamshell strainer arm was replaced with a great, stronger, reproduction....the original was broken. The snare bed on this one was widened (but not made deeper) to allow the wires to sit in the center. The snare responds MUCH better and does not choke as quickly. The snare's edges have a light coat of wax to protect and improve tuning.....very nice edges on the snare ;)
Toms/Bass: The edges aren't prefect but they are very good and even….much better than the other Slingerlands I have owned. They all have minimal re-ring separation and are very round. The tom/bass edges appear to have a light rub of wood putty put on them at some time in there life which is only visible in crevasses and such. No ply separation is visible. The bass lugs include original felt behind the springs and I have inserted felt behind the tom springs do that they do not vibrate.
The top re-ring on the 13" has a small piece that chipped out most likely from the factory, but it does not hurt the shell's structure....picture included. The tom mount was a little bent when I got the set so I replaced it with a new Steve Maxwell mount.....I left the rubber and felt in between the mount because it is not very noticeable and allows the tom to resonate better.
I have upgraded the floor tom leg mounts to the 70's Slingy mounts, but the push-button mounts/legs are also included and work great except they are missing the buttons.
Wrap: The wrap is all original. The wrap has no lift what-so-ever and all of it matches very well for this color. The wrap has faded to a great stormy blue-gray hue depending on the light. It is in great shape on all of the drums except for some slight tom rash on the 13” tom…..does not show up when photographed. Also, I switched out the bass hoops because I intended on restoring the originals. The inlay is in great shape and can be easily reused. The original and extra bass hoops are included.
Hardware/Badges: The hardware is in good condition. Everything functions properly, but it needs some cleaning. Some chrome is slightly rubbed off in spots and rust is on the some of the t-rods. The tom mount on the bass has some chrome loss/rust but functions well. All of the hoops are chrome-over-brass originals.
Cymbals and stands are NOT included.
Thanks for looking!
