58 WFL Super Ludwig 5 X 14 COB Pre-Supraphonic Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Here's a rare bird...

"There were a very few Super Ludwig's produced with WFL badges; so few that they are considered very rare" -from Rob Cook's The Ludwig Book (see the link below the pics)

This one is in pretty good condition. All original except for the snare wires and heads. There is some pitting on three lug casings, and some minor chrome loss on both hoops, muffler knob & some tension rods. There is one very small dimple in the shell that is hidden by the top head.

The shell has some light scratches from many years of playing.

The P-83 Syncromesh Strainer & muffler work smoothly.

And check out the case...talk about character!

I would like to see this one go to a good home, but it won't come cheap.

Asking $1,600 plus actual insured shipping.

I will ship International but buyer pays insured shipping. I will not misstate value to save on duty because it lowers the insurable value.

Awesome snare Bill!

My snare from the same era is what brought me here to VDF. I played it for years but the badge was missing when I got it, when I started cleaning it up, I could'nt figure which badge should go on it, WFL, like yours, or the transistion one.

After speaking to a couple notable Ludwig guys, I went with the WFL badge and it just seemed to fit. There was a bit of an outline for it and markings from a screwdriver or something used to remove the origional badge fit the pattern.

There's no date stamp inside my shell, but there are some hand written initials, something like CUR. Any initials like that inside your snare?

Thanks, Gar. I hate to give it up but I need to move it out.

There isn't any markings inside this one.

There's been quite a bit of interest but it's still available.

Will consider serious offers or trades.

That is one beautiful snare. Wonder how many gigs that case has seen. Sorry I won't be able to grab it. Good luck.

curious if you do any trading? I have two very nice Zildjian K Istanbul cymbals looking to move. One is a 20" ride from the late 50's in excellent condition(1948 gram weight) and an 18" crash from the mid 60's(1660 gram weight). Both have signatures still on bell the ride is minimal but crash is fully intact. Otherwise are you firm on your price.
