59 Slingerland bass drum casing question Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Loading...

Hello,

Does anyone out there in VDF land know if Slingerland was packing the lugs (on bass drums at least) at the factory in 59?

I've been working on a set and there was nothing in the tom tom or floor tom when I pulled them apart.

I just started on the bass drum the other day and I found felt strips wrapped around all of the tension springs.

I pulled the strip out of the first one and the spring just flopped out, like it didn't have the strength to hold itself in the casing.

I noticed there's no real "Seat" in these larger casing for the bottom of the spring and was hoping someone would know if this is a factory "Fix" or more likely a previous owner's doing to cut down on rattle.

As always, thanks in advance!

I found the same thing in one that I disassembled the other day. My springs kind of just flopped out too.
