60's Gretsch kit -Anniversary sparkle? Last viewed: 45 minutes ago

Picked up these RB drums because I thought they would make a good home project kit. After researching and asking around I am told they are anniversary sparkle which were made as limited edition in the late 50s early 60s. Wrap is black w/ gold flakes. They are 6 ply and in decent shape...heads go on easily and the shells are all good...just need some seam repair, inlays, bass badge, and floor tom legs. Can anyone help id these and give me an estimated value? If they are worth a good amount I might have them restored professionally. Thank you! -Dan

Very nice find Dan. What are the shell sizes? I'm thinking your drums have very good value. That finish was decided on as The finish in celebration of the 75th Anniversary for Gretsch drums in 1958. However; it was decided on too late to be pictured in that catalog. It was shown on the "Swatch" page of the 1961 catalog. That puts your drums 58 to 61 as you stated.

Most often a 14" floor tom of that era (late 50's to 61) is more valuable - sought after more because they tend to be harder to come by than the 16's especially the 3ply 14's.

$2000 or more to the right buyer.

Your drums are beauties!

That's great news Kona, thanks for the info! The shells are 22,13,16. They clean up easily. Today I removed the 50 year old dust from the floor tom and polished the chrome...looks excellent. I also set them up for a test drive and they sing! I already have a RB progressive jazz kit which I keep tuned high. I got a similar sound out of the anniversary set, but with a deeper more powerful tone. Was planning to sell these when I bought them but I think they will be sticking around for a while...thanks again, Dan
