60's? Rogers bop kit Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Loading...

Hi. I need some help with a Rogers bop kit I just came across. I have lots of questions.

is 18" bass drum in demand?

it looks like the lugs on the snare have been replaced. Correct? how much will this affect the sound and value?

is the smaller cymbal holder on the bass an addition? does it hurt the value?

what color is set.

year?

I believe the set was purchased all together. I also have the rogers pedal, hi hat, snare stand....these all have a lot of rust.

The seat is a double braced rogers...is this rare?

18" bass is "holiday" ser no. 14068

12" tom is "holiday" ser no. 10210

14" Floor tom is "holiday" ser. no. 6264

snare "luxor" ser. no 3721

Total value????

and help with identifying this set and comments would be greatly appreciated. I can't find a lot on the internet.

Rogers 18" bass drums are very rare, I'm sure others will chime in.

Rare. Issues aren't overwhelming. You should be able to make a couple bux.

hi...can you answer some questions for me?

what are the lugs on snare supposed to be? can you send a pic?

it looks like they drilled holes for the new lugs on snare. How should I fix this? should I fill the holes with wood filler?

the bass is 44068 but the others are lower numbers....are they from different years? do you think the set came together or bought at different times?

is the small cymbal mount original or an add on?

As Rogers expert Ploughman has answered, the Holiday #44068 18" bass is 1964. The 14"FT has a 1964 "Tower" badge #6264 overwritten as a Holiday (overwriting badges was common at Rogers when they ran out of Holiday badges). The 12" tom badge is too blurry in your pics to determine exactly what the original badge was (#10210 can't be a true Holiday number although the tom is definitely a Holiday). The Luxor snare was built in 1963 and would have originally had "Bread and Butter" lugs. These lugs were prone to cracking and were often replaced with the "Beavertail" lugs which first appeared in late 1963. There's no point in converting this snare back to Bread and Butter lugs; the modification is already done, and the Beavertails are more preferred.

So yes, these drums could easily have been originally sold together as a set in 1964. The color is Black Diamond Pearl. And that 18" bass is very desirable, so much that the addition of that L-arm cymbal mount won't discourage buyers (although it does detract a little value).

So how much is this set worth?...whatever someone is willing to pay for it. 14" Rogers FT's have sold for $400 - $600 alone, and 18" basses on Ebay have sold for $200-$350. Market will determine what your set sells for.

Hope this helped.

Plus 1 on the replies so far, with one exception.

Looks like the cymbal mount bracket could be Ludwig, and from one of the pics it looked like you could have a Ludwig claw or two on the BD.

Those are called "bop" sizes, and the 14 ft and 18 bd make them uncommon and very desirable.Nice kit, should clean up nice,Rogers chrome usually comes back pretty nicely IME.

The drums are cleveland era beavertails, the most desirable and valuable Rogers drums.Even in this economy an all original un modded kit bop kits were going for 2500.00 ish sometimes,I think I remeber a couple going for over 3000.00

Not sure but the 18 Bass even as a "player" I think would go for way more than 250.00 350.00.I could be wrong but even as a player kit I think the 18 14 ft 12 tt would go for at least 1200.00 1400.00

The snare should sound fine even with the different lugs, and actually work better from a players standpoint IMO,those 6 luggers are great shuffle drums and great for Nawlins type stuff. No Idea on value but a nice little drum none the less.

Great find,Congrats.

Good answers, agree on value being higher rather than lower. If your desire is to sell, pick a price and receive offers. Selling for considerable more than you invested, is like ... free money.
