hard to say what it's worth, Slingerland prices are always lower than the other big three. If I was selling I would want a lot more than $125, as a buyer , I think you got a great deal on a great drum!!!

Great score! I think you might have caught a break in the auction because of the mistake the seller made in the title. He listed it as a 5x14, seeing that it is clearly a 6.5x14, 10 lug & a 60's model, you scored big time! I would have wanted twice that if I were the seller. If it is complete & correct with brass hoops 'n all you stole this drum. These are some of the most sought after Sound Kings and you rang her up for a buck 'n a quarter!...you're starting to pi$$ me off! LOL!

Congrats my friend!....just remember, Vintage Slingy Collecting is not a hobby...it's a sickness! LoLoLoLo

Damn it. Now you have me spending my time looking for a 6.5x14 snare. Don't need one, just wouldn't mind having that at that price! Congrats.

Thanks guys! I think I am going to use this one as my gigging snare, so that I can leave the Steel Grey Ripple Powertone at home.

You definitely got a great buy! Slingerland's bread and butter snare was the 5x14 8-lug Sound King, with literally thousands of them out there. While there are certainly not as many 6.5x14 models, there are even less with 10 lugs! The Black/Brass badge and new style Zoomatic, with clamp gate for straps or string, and the large knob tone control, tell me this is a late 60's model. The drum also likely has COB hoops, round-over bearing edges and aluminum lug backing plates. If it has all this, you got a real bargain for $125. A really nice present to yourself!
