Anybody have any info on this kit for me? Trying to decide if I should pick it up or not. The price is in CDN dollars btw so they are around $190 USD.

Thanks for helping!

For that price, I grab them without a second thought!

I can't find any info on these things. The finish doesn't seem to appear online anywhere. I buy and sell so maybe I might buy them and fix them up.

Well made drums for sure and they sound great. These look in good shape. Jump on them and offer $225 cdn.;)

Keep fixing them up...

Even if it's a rewrap it's still a great deal. They look nice.

It's a rewrap, but still a great deal..Those drums sound awesome and were very well built !

Remove the wrap and see what's underneath. Could be the original wrap, and if not,

a nice wood finish, most probably birch.

this is an odd one. Looks like a rewrap but also the C-series kits had different lugs (the ones on the listed kit are off the D-series) and the interiors of the shells look like standard MIJ luan rather than the usual Yamaha C-series shells that have a birch interior ply.

The hardware all looks Yamaha but I'm not sure about the shells. Yamaha developed its Air Sealed technology right back in 1967. They used a diagonal seam on the shell and the shell was formed using an inflatable bladder (something like that) so you can tell these shells by the seam (see photo) whereas the one listed has straight seams).

I know some C-series kits had rerings but they always have the birch ply as in the photos. D-series shells were painted inside.

It could possibly be a later kit made for some markets using cheaper shells. I don't know.

Interesting! Thanks for your replies. I also couldn't match up any of the shell lug combinations to pin point what it is exactly. Not sure why somebody would re-wrap a kit in such an ugly finish haha!

even if this is some uncatalogued kit using cheap shells from another supplier (it could've happened) it's fair to say these aren't the good stuff. That said, the hardware has value and as Vintage Yamaha drums get more popular there will be a decent market for parts. There aren't as many of these kits out there as, for example, vintage Ludwig so parts will be in short supply. T's and claws are often needed as are floor tom leg mounts as these often strip out. And nice clean lugs will be useful for restorations etc etc.

I agree- strange shells but a nice pile of parts worth the asking price.
