I just picked up a 1962 6.5 x 15" Ludwig School Festival snare drum. It has a muffler that is a small round knob type muffler. It looks to be original. I'm looking for advice as to if this is correct or not. Thanks, Gerald.

round knob is correct for that period. its right before they went to the red felt baseball bat muffler.

Thanks for all the info and nice comments. It's a cool drum. Having a little trouble getting the nickel to polish. Need new heads. The seller was using it as a dart board. Many dart holes in both heads. I can't post pictures, only camera I have is my new phone. Still learning how to use it. I can send pictures to an email address but haven't figured out how/if to send them to the web site. I really love this forum.
I can't post pics to the site from my phone. Have to send em to my email and then do it that way. Did you grab that refinished Pioneer he had there as well? Was thinking about that one as a gift for my nephew as his first snare. In the meantime I would have played it!

Yes I did pick up the refinished 6 lugger. It is in real good shape. I wish it had a wrap on it though.
Wrap it up! The badge looked like it was already taken off once and not properly reset...so it would be easy to wrap. Precision is blowing out some Sky Blue Pearl for $15 this week!

The rims on this drum are nickel over brass and both the top and bottom rims have the number 524 stamped on them. Anybody have an explanation of what that means?
