Yes, I can see why raising the front of the bass drum, extending the length of the spurs, would make it more stable.

You use a rug with the creep stop for the drum built into it, so you can raise your drum more.

I am using the short clamp on spurs on my front hoop to prevent creep, so I can only raise the drum a little bit, or they don't touch the ground.

Agree with raising the front of the bass drum a couple of inches as that will take care of any wobble/balance issues.I`ve always raised my bass drums and never had any trouble.With a gig rug and raised bass you just might find you won`t need" the short clamp on spurs" on the front hoop.

The 20,12,16 layout was hugely popular in that day. Nice tonal range as the catalogs said, and the red onyx is my favorite color!
