I may have overpaid slightly, but it's alleged to be a 1967 which will be the first 67 vintage snare I've ever had to match with my 67 bop downbeat set. Question: I know how to clean everything else - just wondered if I need to take special care with the outer shell to not scratch the coating. It's a standard Acrolite exterior. Thanks.

congrats on that acrolite. you will love it! crank the snare side up and adjust the batter the way that you want it.
cleaning the shell- not much to do there. they are anodized. its almost the same as a clear coating as far as polishing. just a good cleaning with dawn or whatever. no need to soak it. and a polish with basically any type of wax or so forth.

My rusty one sounds better than my clean one. I can't get the clean one to sound just right. My advice is to leave it dirty. Anyone can have a nice and clean snare. Then again, I don't clean cymbals either.

63' Acro... not cleaned but I was advised that a green scrubbie, like you do dishes with, was really good for cleaning the shell.
Never tried it, can't endorse or recommend it but.... that's what I was told by a forum member that I am sure would not offer bad advice.

If you want to clean the drum, and I would want to, Mikes advice is on the money. I washed mine with dish soap then used Turtle wax, for cars that has a pump spray like the 409 bottles. It made the drum look really nice. Good luck to you, Acrolites are really good sounding drums.

As always, I appreciate the sound advice! Now, if anyone has some tips on hiding it from the wife once it arrives.... I'm good to go!!! My normal strategy is to get it behind the kit. I alternate my 3 snares, and as far as she's concerned - I've only got one!!!! Thanks again to all.D' Drummer
