70's Black Beauty on ebay Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Like most people on the forum I watch vintage drums on ebay. I was amazed at the price this balck beauty sold for. I haven't seen too many 70's BB's on ebay. I understand the high prices on the 20's engraved BB's. But this one boggles the mind. I have read on VDF that some sell for high prices if you are willing to ship to Japan. But how do you jusify this price. I have a 70's BB just like this one that I have been thinking about selling, maybe not as mint. Any opinion on why it sold at such a high price. If mine is worth this much I would be afraid to take it out of the house! Steve

Looks like a good old fashion bidding war,and a sniper bid got it in the end.I would be willing to bet that drum will be in Japan within 2 weeks. There are some import/export companys here that will bid for you,and have the item shipped to them, and then ship it out of the country for a fee.

I guess you just tell them how much the maximum you really want to spend, and they just spend it all in the snipe bid.I guess if you really want the drum, and disposeable income is not a problem, then it dosen't matter what you pay.

Wow that does seem high. I saw that drum when it was first posted, and was actually tempted to make a bid when it was around 1400 or so... haha.

I guess I'll have to settle for a new BB... Ugh, I feel like such a drum snob saying that.

I have the same drum that I purchased new in 1979. Serial number starts with 199. Mine is very nice but maybe not as mint as that one. I still have the original bottom Ensemble head on mine and the original cardboard box that it came in with Black Beauty stenciled on it. It certainly will not be leaving my home, but then it hasn't since 1981. : )

Hmmm... there is also the possibility that the drum will be re listed in a few days when the 'buyer' backs out...

I paid $325 for my 6.5x14 B/O. I bet that one doesn't sound $3,875 better.
