On another forum i asked about qlty issues with this era [70,s] of Gretsch drums and it seems a few folks have had negative issues with them.
Anyone here have the same experience with early 70,s Gretsch??

Well-my first legit pro kit (besides my cobbled together Kent/Slingy's)was an early 70's 5 piece Gretsch concert tom set.The tone of those drums when in tune was to die for.Blue Spruce stain-very classy. But,if I'd seen beyond my Gretsch ardor,I'd have noticed that everything else about that set was totally impractical for the task it was about to take-touring.Every mechanical part on that set was lacking, from loose threading tension casings/rods,auto-tilt spurs and tom leg brackets to the 1 position tom/bass mount. And the 12 was warped on the bearing edge.Baldwin had NO BUSINESS making drums-most other drum manufacturers were miles ahead in hardware design at that point. The Jasper shells-majic-the rest-:(.Ludwig,Rogers Memri-Lok,Tama,Pearl all would have been better choices.
