For sale is a hard to find complete mid 70’s Ludwig Jazzette kit, with the rare 12”x18” bass drum and original serial matched Supraphonic snare. The kit is the configuration shown in the 1975 catalog (http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/jazzette.html) right down to the mahogany cortex finish . I obtained the kit from the second owner, who said it has been stored for most of the last 20 years. I do have the hi hat stand and snare stand that came with the kit, but they are in rough shape, and probably not worth shipping. They could be included if a buyer really wants them.
The serial numbers indicate the kit was made in the mid - late 70’s, but it has the 3 ply shells with rerings and clear interiors usually associated with drums made earlier in the decade.
Individual drums descriptions are below. When I refer to very light pitting, I mean there's just pin point size dots that can be seen when you look really close. From a foot away they look perfect. I can email more detailed pictures to anyone interested :
5x14 Supraphonic snare Serial Number 1608245 :
Light scratches on shell. Very little pitting and no peeling of chrome.
8x12 tom serial number 1608531 :
3 ply shell with clear maple interior. Some gouging of the cortex under the mount. Does't go through the wrap. Not visible from audience or player side. This is shown in picture Tone control missing. Lugs and hoops have very light signs of pitting. Have to be very close to see it
14x14 tom serial number 1608245 :
3 ply shell with clear maple interior. Tone Control missing. Light scuffs on the cortex. Very light pitting on hardware
12x18 bass : Serial number 1608xxx (last digits illegible) :
Scratching on Badge, looks to be caused by folding down the rail consolette arm when not in use. Hence difficulty in reading serial number.
Light scuffs on cortex wrap. Rubber feet missing from spurs.
Seller informed me that the resonant side hoop is a replacement as the original was not with the set when he bought it. T rods and claws are original. Hoop is a very close match to the batter side. This is apparently original, though the clear maple finish is not what’s shown in the catalog. It does look great with the Mahogany cortex, so perhaps was a special order?
Overall this is a very cool little kit, with minor issues given it’s age and uniqueness. It sounds amazing ! Jazzettes rarely come up for sale, especially with the matched Supra, as these tend to drift away from the kits over the years.
Asking $2000 US plus shipping for the kit. I’m in Eastern Canada. Message me for a shipping quote.
Will consider offers.
