Tell your son those sound better than any thing you can buy new. This came directly from the Yamaha guy. Those 70's Slingerlands were made with a glue that is illegal now. It had formaldehyde in it. The other thing is the new drums have a much thicker shell. The Slingerlands are a thin 3 ply shell with reinforcing hoops. One day when he grow up he'll go "I can't believe I got rid of those drums!"

That is a very nice looking set. There does not even appear to be yellowing of the finish in the pics.

Here, here. AGREED! You just can't buy good 'ol Made in the USA quality like that anymore. I'd put these old Slingys up against anything that's on the market now for $850 (what the poster wanted to sell them for), or any price for that matter. The kid will want to kick himself someday for letting these go!Sailing2
