70's (?) slingerland snare Last viewed: 8 hours ago

Hi

I've just found this at a local rehearsing room. It's been seating for years probably and as you can see, someone really mistreated this nice drum.

From what I understand it's a 70's drum. Has 8 lugs. the out side looks mahogany and inside looks maple.

I thought maybe to try put some work on it. Glue the separation of counter hoops, try to find a strainer maybe.. Not to much work but so it'll look nice. One lug is missing so if someone has one laying around somewhere I would love to know about it.

Is 40$ a resonable price to spend on it?

It is a 70's model it at one time looks to of been a artist model. for the money you could do worst.

Not sure why pictures are uploaded upside down.

The drum is nut mine yet. Haven't paid for it, only took it home for a test. What's a resonable price would be?

No collector value due to the modifications and missing outer ply in spots ???, but for $40, I doubt you could find a better sounding drum...

I'd readily and cheerfully pay double that for that drum. Good score!

BTW, you'll almost surely need to do some bearing edge restoration along with the other things. They're visibly uneven in the photos.

Thanks for all the input. Turns out the guy doesn't want to sell it just yet. He wants to try and restore it a little and then sell. Hope it won't get worse.

It's always better to sell before a restoration.

Since ebay and retailers have made a business of replacement parts.

Unless you are going to play it or have an emotional attachment To it and never sell it, you are probably not going to come out on top.

This isn't a fastback with a big block, it's a coupe with an inline six.

I dont think i would want to buy it after he restores it. he has no knowledge of how to do it. its only fun for him.

It just made me want to look for one in better shape and with a duco finish :)
