Cannon makes a correct 1.6 mm hoop for ya,and t 1-5/8"-1-7/8" tension rods are correct...Gonna sound Good!!!

Doesn't matter if they are original tension rods or not for a player....but for resale, absolutely. The $25 you spend on the original rods however, will be about an even wash if you decide to sell.

Thanks for the replies. I just got the shell in the mail so I can show you all the project. The pitting is visible in a couple pictures, but I have seen worse. It is round and the bearing edges look really good. I have the tone control already, and I should be getting some hoops that are true to the period. (I am not sure they are exactly 1971, but they should be the 1.6 mm size). I got them for the right price.

I will be seeing my local drum shop to talk to the owner about some parts. He's a vintage drum buff and he has all kinds of parts. I will post progress pictures as I get stuff in.

Looks to be in pretty good shape...put a coat of high quality chrome polish on it to delay further pitting. Are you going to use period correct Imperial lugs or after market tube lugs (they look great on a Supra)?

I am probably going with the imperials with this one. Sometime later in the year, I want to get another Acro or Supra shell and make it custom with tube lugs, so you king of read my mind. I have seen some beautiful work done custom on those shells. I know it hurts resale, so that's why I want both a custom and a true vintage.

I got everything together a little earlier (and a little costlier) than I thought. I'm not unhappy. I think I ended up with a vintage drum and it sounds great! I didn't plan to sell it anyway. I just thought a classic old Supra to go with my 1980 Acrolite and my 2011 Classic Maple drums (LS 403 Snare) would make a great ensemble.

Tim at Drum City & Guitarland here in Colorado, was nice enough to get me most of the parts. The photos make the pitting look worse than it looks to the naked eye. The only thing that was a little problem, was I got the hoops off ebay and they had quite a bit of rust. I didn't think they would do justice to the rest of the drum, but after a lot of scrubbing, I think they're OK. I will do some more scrubbing this weekend.

I went to NAPA and got a product called "Nev'r Dull" that seemed to shine up the chrome well. I used some aluminum foil, a toothbrush, and a rag with it to help clean and polish. The date sticker had broken in 3 pieces not long after I unpacked it. It was dried out and I think the dry Colorado air was too much for it. I used some kindergarten stick glue I borrowed from my grandson to stick it back on. It looks like it was never broken.

I will be gigging with it in a couple weeks. This was fun! The next project (which will have to wait until later in the year) is going to be a custom restore with artwork.
