I have a 1977 ludwig butcher block kit. toms are 8 10 12 13 14 15 and 16 floor. 12 and 13 and 16 all have bottom hoops. the rest are concert toms.my question is, should i run resonate heads on the bottom of the 16,12 and 13 or just put hoops on with old heads to keep toms from warping and just cut out the centers. i'm running evans hydrolic clear on batter side of all the toms. trying to get the best "70's" deep sound i can. any suggestions?

My most serious drummin' was in the 70s... and I always (and still do, for that matter) used old (beat-up, well-used, shot, whatever you want to call them) heads on the reso sides that I just cut out all the way around about an inch in from the edges. Like RogerSling's idea, if I were you I would be tempted to install lugs on the concert toms so they all match...

BTW, since this is also an Arkansas reunion of sorts, I'm only about 150 miles northwest of Rogers (in SE Ks).

And very much looking forward to the Cotton Bowl Jan 6!!!
