Several wraps from the 60s are prone to splitting and cracking. And weve all pretty much read the same reasonings for it happening. I dont know just how well all those theories play out, because Ive seen drums come from the northeast that are perfect, and drums that lived in the southwest totally messed up. What I do believe is that if you find a set that has that fabled perfect wrap......... being as it has survived for close to 50 years without cracking, chances are it is fairly stable as long as you properly care for it. Red Wine Ripple was prone to split. My 64 set is perfect. And I am very careful with them.
you have a point there. The same guy advertised a double kick set up with the same finish a while back. And now he's got 2 sets for sale. So this one is exactly what you said.See, I totally knew this was the right place to ask.So, the asking price might be a little too high for a "composite" set, eh?
I agree with Ploughman my point was that it is a set made up from drums from who knows where NOT a factory set as it sits now ..
how about this guy?

bunny smells a re-wrap.
The WMP should cost around 2500-3500 in color that fresh. Unless of course, its a rewrap, then it should be offered at the price it is listed at, and settle for about 800. I also smell a rewrap.
By what signs would you know if it is a rewrap?
here is this guy selling the other half of the kit.
when asked about this fact he pretended ignorant: "this is a kit i picked up a few years ago it came this way. i doubt it was part of a twin bass kit. why do you ask about this?"
and on his myspace page he's got the picture of the very double kick set:

Look at this one..there is a wood Dyna Sonic under there. If it is all included in the pic, that is the deal. Wood Dyna's typically are worth about 2000-4000 alone, if it is a real Dyna and original. The other one looks like a homebuilt and then in another ad he has up shows what appears to be a Fibes snare.
It smells fishy to me...
But then, everything does.
