Bill as always good eye your correct, I screwed up!!!
A little help with a 1969 Ludwig please ! Last viewed: 0 seconds ago
64 goes with red muff, doesn't it?
Wow good eye on the serial number indeed ! I guess that is good news that the serial numbers make sense with the red mufflers.
Bad news is that I am almost sure those badges have been tampered with now that I have taken another look at them. Little chip marks around the vent hole on the interior.
Wrap seems pretty solid to my rookie eyes but I will let the experts decide
Will have to post pics tomorrow of the bearing edges, seams, badges etc...got home from work and wife is out with the camera.
You guys have been too helpful.
Drumbum I appreciate your offer and will PM you soon !
Thanks so much for the info and I will post some pics tomorrow.
Cheers,
Derek

...and the floor tom mounts are the earlier style, too. Interesting. I just want to see if the wrap is tucked into the scarf joint or not. That's the surest way to tell a re-wrap with vintage Ludwigs. I await the next volley of pictures...

Nice find. I know there are some questions to be answered here, but I think you can sort this one out and still have a very nice player. From what I see, the scarf/wrap looks original. The wrap has the appropriate fade. And the b/b mufflers look good. Slow down, take a deep breath and clean those puppies. The white paint issue...well, it ain't gonna make a hill of beans where the sound is concerned, and when the heads are on, all white and pretty, you won't see it. The edges may need a light sanding to smooth the roughness, and make the heads slip over easier...I think these are pretty drums, and one of my fave colors.
You say you want players, these look like the real deal to me, not saying the badges may not have been tampered with, or the paint belongs....none of that. But slow down, answer one question, then the next, all while pulling the lugs and tearing them down to clean and shine. When the sound comes out, you won't care if the interiors are the wrong color for the era, especially if you got them for the right price. The springs come out of the lugs the same way, and the inserts get nasty on the exposed side just the same way, and the oxidation comes off with a little steel wool, only on the inserts, no where else on the chrome, and the tension screws......steel wool and baby oil...you get the point.
KleeningClean and scrub, answer the questions, and when you are done, I don't think it will matter as much, unless you find something really wrong.
Good luck, and slow down for a minute. Champaign sparkle is a great color. And it looks good on Downbeats.
