A movie that stars a drumset Last viewed: 4 hours ago

I've seen some stills from this movie, and one of the sets looks vintage. After watching the trailer though I can't believe somebody actually made a great movie about drumming. [ame]http://youtu.be/7d_jQycdQGo[/ame]

Ridiculous! A contemporary jazz school teacher physically and verbally abusing a student in an ensemble class! There would be a lawsuit in two seconds.

Just saw this movie yesterday with my girlfriend. Playing at the Arclight Theater in Hollywood. Bought our tickets online and glad we did...the show was completely sold out! And that was for the 3pm showing!

Yes, the movie will make you angry...BUT...it will also make you happy, too! If you're a drummer, you need to see this movie! Highly recommended!

I'm sure there was some Hollywood license taken, but the film is based on the director's actual experience.

If you see the movie, don't forget to stay for the credits. Excellent drumming during the credits!

They should have named it: Buddy Rich... The Teaching Years!

The trailer sounds like the Buddy Rich bus tape. If anybody had ever treated me that way when I was a youngster I would have slashed his tires and hired a gang of Asian organ thieves to harvest his kidneys. What an A-hole!

I'm sure I will go to this movie when it is available around here but, judging by the trailer, I am sure I will have some misgivings. The trailer brings back memories of our high school coaching staff (in my mind, then and now, totally unprofessional.) These athletic coaches were the reason I gave-up sports entirely and concentrated on music & drama, in school. It turned out well for me, but certainly unneeded trama for a student.

With today's emphasis on "anti-bully", I have often said that the only real bullying I suffered occurred at the hands of high school sports coaches and in Boy Scouts.

It's ironic, to me, that the same school system that provided band, vocal music, and drama instructors who were so good at encouraging and nurturing young talent would tolerate coaches who belittle & bully student athletes.

Anyway, I do plan to view this film and enjoy the music.

That's just me.

MarkE - It really sucks that you had to go through an experience like that in your life. Good to see that you are able to talk about it openly and with some real insight. Not being able to talk about it, or feeling the need to 'keep secrets' would be a problem and the experience would have damaged you. You came through OK. Some of the most meaningful Life lessons we learn are born of pain.

You sound like a good man, Iowa. Your heart is in the right place!

I cant' wait to see it and I can't understand why some of you guys are getting upset at the way the teacher was acting. Sometimes you need a good kick in the pants to achieve greatness.

What this teacher is doing is NOT a kick in the Pants. More like He's running over him with his car.

If this was the way I had to be treated to achieve greatness. I would put down my sticks and walk away. There's ways of inspiring people to be there best without abusing them.
