Some people don't get it. and they never will. They usually become guitar players.
Ouch! That's just mean man!! (say's mick, guitar player for 45 yrs and aspiring drummer).guitar3D' Drummer:D
Honestly I wasn't trying to be mean.
But a guitar player can take a Two Thousand dollar guitar, haul it around in the back of a truck without a case, drag it by the neck down a gravel road, use it like a hammer to kill the occasional cockroach on stage, and twenty years later put what is left up for auction and get $45,000.00.
When a drummer does all of that..... it just ends up spray painted black in a punk band.
It's terrible when they are just too far gone, due to stupity chit.
Nothing you can do. Save what you can, someone will need the parts.

I knew that! I just remembered the "mean" phrase from a movie where James Coburn says it a couple times. You're dead on with your guitar description. You can get a brand new Strat or Telecaster that looks like it went thru the process you describe: in the guitar game they're referred to a relics and the process is relicing.
Only in America!
