A Sign Of The Times Last viewed: 5 hours ago

I guess that it is a sign of the times that we are seeing a steady stream of people popping in with very similar first posts that may be the only post each one ever makes here. Don't get the idea that I'm complaining about this because I have a bottom feeder collector's mind set. This sometimes results in making a good score from someone who just wants to sell something that the seller knows nothng about, and cares about even less.

I don't think a day has gone by in the past few weeks without seeing someone pop in, ask what something is worth, and then disappear. I know that other drum forums frown on such posts. I hope that this forum allows them to continue because selfish old me just might make a nice score.

I. for one, would like to see pictures of the drums that you own. You already know that there will be people here who can answer most questions about the drum gear. Quiet laid back people are not necessarily schmucks. Some of us (pointing at myself) are just the opposite, and can also be that way.

I am one of those people that you are referring too. I am a musician (guitar player) and the vintage guitar side is way different than the vintage drum world. So when I post for feedback I am looking for friendly advice from fellow musicians. I have a huge vintage drum collection that I need to go though because of a family members passing. He has collected rare unusual even weird stuff that I cannot possibly find on a simple website. So, here I am. If I am offending anyone please let me know and I will simply go away and will understand and respect your forum. If it is okay, I would still love share what I have and learned through this process as it only helps to understand the vintage side of drums.

Respectively

Dave:

Speaking for myself, please do share and ask questions. I hope that others are not offended.

Atleast people know the site exists!

Also, I'd like to ask the Don for all the concessions on Ludwig gear from 1950-1977. In return , I wilz "donate" 51% of the take to the Brotherhood of Drummers Lodge in Flatbush.

on another forum (not drum related) I frequent we call these sorts of posts "drive by's" That forum also is very clear that they don't give appraisals on values. On that site you can't post an ad in their for sale area until you have a certain amount of posts and you must post a price. No "make offers" allowed. Drive by's usually get deleted quickly. That admin is a bit of a control freak and I am not suggesting we need such tight rules here.

Sometimes people doing this know what they have and are just performing a soft sell by asking for a value. Sometimes they don't know what they have and will get pounced on like a sick wildebeest on the Serengeti. Sometimes people join and ask a value and stick around but don't post for various reasons.

It's the nature of this forum. It's kind of like Antiques Roadshow in the effect of people just coming in for a quick inquiry and then not sticking around. People have been coming here and doing that for the entire time I have been here....and I've been here pretty much from the beginning. I have no problem with it at all.
