KK.

to all you "younger/newer" guys and, I "ain't" that old, as guys on this site go but, I will tell you this, if yer willin to listen.....

Pay attention to Purdie & Ralf & Oddball, and FR428 and Henk(when he makes an appearance, for us Sonor guys), and a whole bunch of other guys here who know more about drums than you can ever hope to.

Read ALOT(P.S.:I read just about everything), post a little.

just my 2 cents at the moment.

Welcome all new guys. Message me if you need further direction. Make yourselves known and learn sumthin.

BTW: Thanx to all who have taught me over the last year or so. Many thanx.

latest: my Drops are CLOSE to finished!

Thanks for the kind words but it's really not necessary. People will take away what they will from whoever happens to provide the info or answer they are looking for. You name three or four guys who post here regularly, but there are many more who offer up useful, helpful info and feedback to the guys that come here hoping to find answers. For every post I put up responding to somebody, there are a dozen other guys doing the same thing. This site is rich in human resources. That's why it's a little embarrassing to be singled out.

It takes a village... and we have a good one here. No one, or three guys should be singled out. The credit for VDF goes to -everybody- who contributes to it.

I'm honored by your compliment, but the credit really needs to be shared by -many- of our members. I personally have a bunch of guys here that I deeply respect and look to for advice when I need it. They know who they are.

Purdie, don't mean to put you on the spot, merely to use you as a barometer of credibility to new guys here on the forum, based on what I've observed over my time here.

READ ALOT. EVERYONE sees stuff. no opinion/experience is beneath hearing out.

wisdom is a trail of tiny treasures.

> Purdie, don't mean to put you on the spot,

No worries. It was intended as a compliment I'm sure and that's how I took it. It was a nice thing of you to say.

> merely to use you

I was married for 37 years... I know all about being 'used'! Hurting

> as a barometer of credibility

I only know one joke about the usefulness of barometers...

Q. How do you find out the height of a skyscraper by using a barometer?

A. You find out where the janitor lives and then you threaten to wallop him with the barometer - unless he tells you how high the building is.

Well, I'm a new guy by VDF standards :) and I thank you for your welcome. And by the way, as a new guy, I should probably introduce myself: I'm Alex, I'm a Greek living in the land of the gods, I'm an active drummer and I love it :) I pay very close attention to what VDF people say, this place is like an oasis right in the middle of a musical desert (as far as vintage instruments go). The only problem is that there's not enough time to read everything

I've always thought that drummers, compared to other musicians, are much more co-operative creatures and much more willing to share tips and advice - and this forum is proof. Bowing

You know, aside from our members most generous free exchange of information/knowledge that IS the VDF... what I find most unusual here is the "almost" complete lack of flaming.. snarkiness.. smugness.. narcissism.. et al, that one DOES find on just about every other drum forum... or any other forum for that matter. With over 13,000 members here and counting.. ( OMG! ) .. and with approx. .25% of those members being active contributors, well... YES!, we do have a real nice place here at the VDF! As the Moderator, I applaud our membership for making it relatively EASY for me to keep this place up and runnin' without the bucket loads of c r a p that most other forums suffer from. THANKS and ENJOY!

I agree. This forum feels like a bunch of guys (and sometime gals) around a big table in a local bar sharing a beer and appetizers. A relaxed and friendly atmosphere with very little negativity. Some super nice people on VDF. Thanks to the Hall of Famers like Purdie, tamadrum (Steve), Slingerland and others. It's a testament to the moderator and that vintage drum people are the best. Bowing
