About a 60's Slingerland ! Last viewed: 44 minutes ago

Hello everyone !

I'm french so I already apologize for my bad english !

Well, so I want to buy a vintage Slingerland that I find on the web.

The owner will normally send me more pics of the kit next week.

But maybe you have more informations on this one.

It´s a Slingerland from the Niles Era, the badge is gold and black and seems to have a serial number so I guess it´s from between 1963 and 1969 when I look at this page : http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/slingerland_badges.html

The sizes are 22x14, 13x9, 16x16 and a 14x5 snare.

Here we go for the questions !

What do you think of this kit ?

What kind of shells can it be ? What kind of wood ? How many ply ?

With reinforcements rings or not ?

Was it a good drumset on the 60´s or was it at the bottom of the Slingerland series ?

What pictures I have to ask to the owner ?

How much do you think I have to pay for it ?

Here's a pic :

Thank you very much for any informations that you can give me ! :)

Here we go for the questions !

What do you think of this kit ? Like it! Very nice Krupa Deluxe Outfit No. 1N. The snare might be a solid maple shell. Have the owner take a closeup shot of the bearing edge of the snare in particular.

What kind of shells can it be ? The bass and toms should be the Slingerland 3ply Mahogany/Poplar/Mahogany most likely. The snare will be either the same as the bass and toms or it will be a solid maple shell.

What kind of wood ? See above.

How many ply ? See above.

With reinforcements rings or not ? Solid Maple reinforcement rings.

Was it a good drumset on the 60´s or was it at the bottom of the Slingerland series ? The 1N was the absolute top of the line kit Slingerland offered during this time frame.

What pictures I have to ask to the owner ? Inside, bearing edges, seams, closeup of the lugs and hoops, etc.

How much do you think I have to pay for it ? France has a completely different market than the U.S. I would not be able to provide that information.

Whoo! Thanks for all theses informations, I'm very excited about buying it now !

It's exactly what I want !

Can you estimate the price anyway if it was in the USA ?

Thank you so much !

Anyone else can confirm what mcjnic said ? :)

Hi, lovely kit and the condition looks good, I am in Britain and if I was buying this from a good dealer I would expect to have to pay £1400-1600 so a little more in euro.

I would say if you can buy it for 1000 euro or so it will be a very good buy, these 60s Slingerland kits sound fantastic.

Good luck you won't regret buying it

for USA standards the price of slingys has dropped a lot for some reason, id say 850 to 1k US the max and that's if its perfect good luck...

Snare has a Rapid strainer on it..so NOT solid maple..

Drums are quite yellowed too,so I wouldn't pay top dollar for them...

Look at the rail mount also...lots of chrome has flaked off on it.....

For what he is asking, you can prolly find a whiter set in the States, and pay the $300-400 shipping, and still be at the same price......or less....

Guess we are spoiled here..I can find a set like that for $400-500 if I work at it.....

Good call, Blair. I did not look all that close. Just gave them a cursory glance.

That's a pretty nice looking set! That's a Hollywood Ace snare so it's gonna be a 3 ply and the toms & bass will most likely be maple/poplar/mahogany with maple re rings if it's past 1963 which I'm guessing it is but I can't zoom in clearly on the snare badge. The WMP is yellowed a bit but in a nice way that accentuates its maturity. The bass drum hoops look like there's some wear but from what I can see, they don't look terrible. Overall they look good but you'll want to know if the interiors are in good shape too. If I was selling it I'd probably be asking for around $1200 in the USA and work the sale from there. In France, I don't know. Do you know what the asking price is? The rusty rail mount can always be replaced. Just be sure that it's condition is not indicative of the overall condition.
