Wow. What a cool drum!

In your search for infomation, you might contact the Ringling Museum in Sarasota, FL and their archive.

There is even a form to request information about specific employees and performers.

I am happy to say that I will be playing

Barnum & Baily's Favorite march on the

Ringling Brothers drum Feb. the 23rd with

the Muskingum Valley Symphonic Winds

At Muskingum University. I am thinking it will quite the rush.

The sound of the real gut snares on a 12X15 drum is huge and ballsy.

A few pieces of further info for those interested.

The drum was used by Red Floyd for 20 years.

When Red retired in 1960. Rudy Bundy who was

Treasurer and COB of Ringling put the WFL floor tom legs on it

and used it for a cocktail table in his private train car where it

traveled with the circus for another 20 years. Rudy is always

smoking a big cigar in pictures of him and there is a cigar burn hole in the top head.

I replaced the head for playing purposes but will put the old one

back on for historical purposes.

Love your story. So interesting. I have a close friend who is a RBB&B Clown College graduate. I've been to Venice, FL training facility years ago and have an appreciation for the whol shebang. Maybe with exception of the animals :)

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I missed this thread originally, thanks for waking it up again!

All I can say is, it would be hard to sit in the same room with that one. The mojo must be massively huge...
