So, to start off I will say that I just found this site and think that there are going to be some people on here that can give me some good advice.
I have an old Rogers drum set that my mom bought for me when I was in middle school about 15 years ago. It was my first set, I was young, and it was already a little beat up, so needless to say it was not in the best shape. I played it for a couple of years but it has been taken down and stored in my old room every since I left home for college.
Long story short, I have a desire to look into fixing up this set, but am not sure if it is going to be worth my time or money. I do not have the kit with me so I will have to go off of memory. I know looking at the badges and model info will be helpful, so I will try to make a trip to my parent's house to get that sometime. Below are the details I know:
-Rogers, 4 piece set, Red Onyx Pearl shells, similar to this but not as nice http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=18350
-snare: pretty sure it was a 14" but could be wrong, has original lugs, throw, and buffer
-tom: 12" I believe, has lugs and rims for top head, has most but maybe not all lugs for bottom head, no rim for bottom head has Swivo-matic post collar
-floor tom: 16", similar lug and rim situation as 12", has orginal legs
-bass: 18", similar lug and hoop situtaion as others, has legs, has two post collars, has one ball joint tom holder
-hardware: pretty grimey, some lugs are cracked, not all screws are matching, one collar has knob broken off on one side
-shells: pretty rough around holes for lugs, edges are not very defined either
-wraps: 12" tom definitely had sun fading on one side, bass may have as well, dull in some spots
Is this set worth trying to restore the orginal parts?
If so, what would an approximate cost be for doing this work?
Is it possible to revive the faded wraps?
Would I be better off keeping the shells and wraps, but replacing all of the hardware with other brand/generic hardware?
If you could give me some advice on the matter I would appreciate it. (I am leaning towards removing the wraps, refinising the shells, and putting matching modern hardware on.) Thanks so much.
