I am guilty of this also but post pics here directly. A couple times I was at my limit and had to delete a few to post more on my resto thread. The ones I removed were old for sale items but a few were in topics as well. Unless I'm doing something wrong I thought there was a limit on the amount of images you can post here?
Alright - I've got a general whine... Last viewed: 1 hour ago
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Sometimes I just don't feel like reducing as you need to do it a couple of times to get it as close to the pixel rate as possible. The FORUM Photobooth idea is GREAT !!!! Jumping2
I am still a caveman type, so when I first tried to post pics here I had problems. I recieved many helpful responses (thanks!), but it seemd like there's 1,000 ways to do it. I now can use my paintshop to reduce images, etc. ( pat on back). Most of the time it works on first reduction, others I have to keep reducing; I don't know why. The point is there are members like me, who need it to be simple. If the cost is not prohibitive, maybe some of the earlier suggestions might help.
Well, that's enough thinking for me...my brain hurts.

One inconvenience of posting here is that a popup opens from each thumbnail rather than having your image stay in the actual post page, making you jump around to view images and read the post. Not a terrible problem on a desktop, but more inconvenient on a mobile device.
Another challenge is that many of us want to use our mobile device for taking initial photos and to post. There is no way to do this without using a photobucket acct.
Just my:2Cents:

Being a site devoted to the Preservation of Drum History, it's important to post pictures here on the site.
David (Webmaster/Owner) has posted his wishes on this topic in the past.
I worked with David for a period of time two years ago reading each thread and sending him links to the threads containing links to off-site photo sites.
He would then transfer the photos as attachments here on site.
I did it alphabetically, and after an hour a day for six months, I had only arrived at the "Gs".
This didn't include the incoming posts during that time.
I had to quit due to starting back to college.
It's was huge task to keep up with this, as one can imagine, and really not necessary if we adhere to his wishes going forward.
As a privately owned website for the public it would seem a small compromise to make of our own convenience to help keep things the way our owner wants them.
Here's a LINK to a sticky post on the topic and some of the reasons why Webmaster asks for us to follow his directions.
In Windows, pics are easily reduced in size in Paint.....
You don't have to toss your big, high-rez photos to do it.
Just rename your reduced photo, add a few letters is what I do, like Forum....
Now you have your originals, and a set suitable for posting on this site as well.
After you do it a few times, it only takes a few seconds. hmmmm
These photos were taken at 640x480, 800x600, and1600x1200 at regular resolution
No reductions were made, and they loaded up just fine.
These aren't great, I'm no photographer, but I can see them quite well.

FFR428, you can load 5 images per post, if you want to post more then just reply to your own post and post 5 more, and so on....:)
I use photobucket because it allows me to use a high res photo. I usually never use forums picture software because by the time you lower it to the "proper" file size you lose lots of definition. If there was just a way to use big files then I would use it...Until there is support for large files I will use photobucket. I leave mine all on there though. I never delete them.
This. Plus photobucket interfaces seamlessly with the various android and iPhone OS'.

That is it exactly! I don't know how much time I've spent grabbing and copying C/L and eBay ads just so the 'darn' (I meant damn, but doubt it will be allowed) things will be around for as long as the site is!
The whole purpose is to provide information for users and 'folks' in general. Without a plethora of pictures the historical relevance gets lost in the shuffle. There is a reason museums only showcase 'things' not descriptions...
If you think the available resolution is too low on the site, my suggestion is to post here anyway, then provide a link to your higher resolution off site pic. That way the image IS here for research.
Frankly, I don't belong to many 'things' like this, but posting a photo here is about as easy as I've ever seen. The only thing that would or could make it easier would be if the image is too large some site side software would reduce it. I'm not at all sure if that would work best, or if Webmaster David wishes to have a dedicated off site 'photo bucket' or some other account. Actually, something off site is not in his direct control... IMHO that is not at all good. It's like giving someone you've never met keys to your house while you're on vacation.
Lastly (well maybe... heh heh heh) thanks kevins, didn't know you were doing that. It is appreciated, at least by me.
Oh yeah... like I said in my original whine... my point is proven in the non USA forum. A great Tama thread, someone asking a question, and no reference pictures...

Okay, I've struggled with posting pics directly to the site myself - I take large pics, (to show detail) and when I try to post them they are WAY too large, and invariably I end up having to reduce them two or three times before they are small enough to post here, and by then, (if I haven't already given up, or just been desuaded altogether anticipating this frustration) it's eaten up way too much of my time. Recently started using photobucket, and have found this to be a simple, and efficient solution. I understand, and appreciate the whole archival aspect of this issue, but so far, (maybe it's just me) I've found the on-site posting to be less accommodating for my needs by comparison.

Kevins thank you! Good info to know. I'll go back and try to replace the pics as needed. I take cell phone pics, email them to myself and save them in my documents. Not the best quality but they work.
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

The concept is, this is a bigger thing than one's own needs and convenience.
A member can be a part of that or not, but it's just downright rude to dismiss the Webmaster's requests when it comes to this website.
It's like the azzhole that won't take off his frigging shoes when politely asked to do so at your house......flower
