While Risen isn't a vintage brand. What is with them advertising that they are the first to use aluminum lugs, when at least 4 companies used them in the 40's and 50's?

They like to lie about it to try to make more money or to say they have the new style of lugs...But then again iam saying this from the stand point of Bad Blood with them also another custom drum company Truth drums....Mikey
Aluminum is cheap, easy to machine and polish. Looking at their lugs they are just round stock and look very easy to make. Nothing really spectacular looking to me. I do see one kit they used repop Slingy beavertails. And the tube lugs look like the store bought ones many vendors sell. Show me something with some depth and character and I'll be more impressed. They have some cool finishes and the day glow shells are kinda neat. So they have that going for them. For me most drums are quickly identified by the lugs and hardware. Classic designs that carried through the decades. But originality, thought and design seem to be missing from some current day companies. Many of just them blend together to me.
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

I asked them and got a nice answer , thanking me for the clarification.
In the case of precision machine parts, castings are often milled after casting, in order to obtain consistency and fit, where that is required. In the the case of drum lugs , the precision isn't as important as basic functionality and cosmetics , so a polished casting with one, roughly milled surface, where it contacts the shell is adequate. Where the difference really lies is in the volumes of units required in order to be cost efficient. It is a lot cheaper to mill 2,000 units than cast them because you don't have to make up a mold and make use of or create a foundry. The up front money to mill them is much lower and lugs can be made in small quantities cheaper and more efficiently. As far as performance differences? Probably about the same. The look of milled lugs could be cool. You could make them look really efficient and precise, if that's what you were after------ and perhaps then confer an aura of precision to the entire drum.
