Aluminun Sticks? Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Hi, Guys!

I was thinking of trying a pair of aluminum drum sticks but, I have no experience whatsoever with them. I'm just curious and wonder what you think. Thanks.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I've never used them other than on a rubber pad... I would not go near a kit with them though. I'd be worried about chipping the rims..

Cheers

I used a pair back on the 60's and really liked the balance they had, but one not so well placed hit and they broke, so.......back to wood I went.

Dented rims, busted heads, cracked cymbals... other than added weight for practice, there is nothing good to be said for them if you use them on a kit/real drums. As far as I'm concerned they are an accident waiting to happen if you use them on a kit.

We used them in drum corps the verisonics I hated them, they would break at the tip. I went back to good ole Ludwig 2b wood tip. the entire crops followed suit.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

I used them in the '60's, they had decent balance but as your hands started sweating they started slipping. Had to wrap them with some adhesive tape so I could hold on to them. Back to wood....:)

I met a drummer on a cruise a few months ago. Awesome drummer. Really amazing solo to Benny Goodman's Sing Sing. He said he was originally from Vegas, I don't recall his name but he showed me a pair of solid brass sticks. He said he used them for practice before a show. He said it made his hands feel light for the show. And, I'll tell you what, his hands were indeed like air because he got, not just one but TWO standing ovations for a single drum solo. One of the most amazing drummers I have ever seen in person.

Anyone use brass sticks like that?

Had a friend make me a pair in 1966 and when i`d do a rimshot you could see the impression in the stick.Luckily the rims survived without any damage. That was it for aluminum sticks for me.Not saying the modern ones aren`t good, but there is a certain feel to wood that just says stay with it.Wood sticks and acoustic drums were just made for each other. We`re all different so maybe that aluminum feel will be right for you but as someone mentioned before on this thread-stay away from stick shoulder crashes on the cymbals.
