I'm fortunate enough to own one of those beauties, in the 11xxx range (Dayton era, 1968) and it sounds amazing. Whenever I take it with me to a gig, most of my band mates will turn around at some point and say something along the lines of "that's a great-sounding drum you got there, what is it?". No one believes it's a 50-year-old drum... Sometimes even I can't believe it :)

No, I have not seen this, thank you for posting it. I have one snare, it has the big R badge with a D965968 number and five grooves in the center. It is not COB so I don't see it in the list. Must not have been one of their better snares.
That site is a great resource.
Thank you!

Beautiful collection. I was interested in the BDP wood Dynasonic until I saw the serial number was rubbed out. Maybe that's a photo error?

It's not rubbed out; he blurs out all his serial numbers in the photos. Very interesting site. I liked his two methods of fabricating Dynasonic snares, but the cost of materials seems like it would make more sense to just buy the Puresounds.

If your drum has a serial number and 5 lines in the middle it is indeed a USA-made Dynasonic and is COB.
Thank you!
