Steve Maxwell has a 4-piece Gretsch set for sale with a 3-ply 18" bass drum, and all 3-ply everything else, WMP. Worth checking out if you haven't scanned his site for a while.

That's a fine looking kit. Too bad about the yellowing on the FT. Knowing Maxwell's, I'm sure they want a fortune for the thing.
Thanks for sharing.

No doubt it will command quite a bit of cash! I think even crazy numbers may be justified for this, though...
drool...
A three ply 18" BD - that is a rare bird for sure! First one I've ever seen.
I don`t care what anyone says,...that is not a family, two of them were adopted. So at least one more kit exsists !!
From the sound of it, they want HUGE money (i.e. over $15K) for this kit. I personally would never spend that kind of dough on a pieced-together kit that doesn't even have consistently faded wraps, no matter how much I had to spend or how much I like Gretsch 3-ply.
Good ol' Steve - I love how he also points out that the snare is only passable sounding at best.
For that kind of money, you could buy 10 beautiful vintage kits. I guess I'm just too practical.
Why are the BD rods 60's style?
Over $15k. Wow. I don't really get that. Maybe $5-6k but then what do i know. If it were totally matching and I new maybe a Jazz great had used it then maybe...........
I know vintage guitars have reached outrageous price tags.
