Hi all,
I come from a few other forums but now that i've joined the vintage world with my latest acquisition, i'll be visiting here more often. I do have a 67 Blue Oyster Pearl kit that my dad bought new in 67 and then sold to my uncle. I bought it from my uncle a few years ago but i don't gig with it so never thought of myself as a "vintage" guy until i purchased a Camco kit.
I havent received yet so I'm hoping the shipping gods are kind.
Apparently this kit has a lot of history. The guy I bought it from was a drummer and provided back line kits in LA in the 70's. Apparently he was asked to supply a kit for Charlie Watts and he brought along one of his personal Gretsch kits. The one Charlie's been playing ever since. I spoke to this guy for quite some time and he seemed very knowledgeable and legit. Very interesting guy!
This kit I bought was played by a lot of famous drummers from that era, Mick Fleetwood being one of them. It's a 69 Camco Oaklawn, 24, which i was also told is pretty rare, 13 and 16. Not my sizes but I couldn't pass it up for the price I paid! The badges are on the kit but not shown on this pic. I was nervous about making the deal as it was from Craigslist and across the border. I talked to the guy personally before buying it. Man I hope I haven't been scammed. If I was, the guy was ultra smooth......

I was so nervous i was being scammed that i checked out the guys Facebook, verified the area code i called was from Cody and then saw the kit on his Facebook. He posted the kit for sale on his Facebook back in march and had the kit on craigslist for a month at a really good price so that made me suspicious that it hadn't moved yet.
We're even entertaining meeting half way at the border to pick up the kit, but it's about 800miles return for the both of us, so i'm not sure if that will happen. THe guy is extremely interesting and i'd love a chance to visit and talk drums with him if i had the chance
This is some info on the kit from his Facebook...
Drummer alert!
I am finally ready to part with my old road partner 1969 Camco drumset. These drums were originally owned by Martha and the Vandellas (if you're under 40 you may not care about that) I acquired them in '78 from a LA recording studio. This kit has been all over the US (even Aruba!) and toured with West for 8+ years. The Toms and Bass are for sure April '69 vintage with a 6.5 Ludwig snare, Rogers Swiv-o-matic hi hat and Caroline BPedal. Jimmie Fadden from Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's signature is inside shell of the ride tom (see under 40 above). It's kinda like buyin' a museum! (Albeit, a rather small one)
