Another bearing edge violation Last viewed: 2 minutes ago

This isn't about a drum or about an edge !

A few years ago, I took a vintage duck call to a wood carver, I asked if he could copy the call as I would like to give it to my duck hunting partner as a gift. A few weeks later I got a call from the carver, he said that it was too difficult a task and could I stop by and pick up the call. I went over to pick it up, he explained that he had spent some time trying to carve it and though he should get compensated for that (ok, that's fair) he then went and got my vintage call. When he handed to me he said oh by the way I painted it for you (black enamel). I won't go into detail as to what I said next. It was destroyed of any value !

What I don't understand is what gives a person the right to deface someone else's property. It's simply wrong.

In the case of the drum a removable sticker maybe ! At least ask permission before doing something like that ! If you want the advertisement give your client some business cards to hand out.

I could almost see writing inside if the person was a talented calligrapher but that bold black scrawl looks terrible. Interesting "duck" story! Hard to imagine someone doing that.

Yeah, I think this is a bit much, but like I said, the guy's work is solid. I'd do a little sticker or label if I really felt the need to sign my repairs. Personally, my goal is to make it as close to "I was never even here" as possible.

I hear Nodar did good work and I think his heart was in the right place by signing the drums. It is unsightly and unnecessarily large writing. I would shy away from a drum that he worked on because of the sharpie work, not his mods. Chris Heuer is the only guy I use for vintage drum repairs/edges/refinishing/etc and his goal is to have it look as the factory intended.
