Yes I am a huge fan.

Unbelievably smooth inside the time sig.

Fluid playing.

I have a goal to get some of that type of fluidity in my playing.

This must be an earlier clip of him, he makes it look so simple.

That cymbal setup is a later run. He was a Zilly K guy for quite a few years. He has always been one of my all-time faves. So freekin' talented. Akoustic Live is one of my fave CDs ... amazing solos.

You know, whenever I hear that, I just remind guys that Dave can only sit behind one kit at a time. All the other gigs are still open.

Yes. We all can only sit behind one kit. It's what Dave's doing behind there, that I was getting at, albeit, tongue and cheek. My comment was about praise, not looking for gigs.

Odd reply to my quip.

That is just my standard reply when someone (including me) starts getting bummed, even if it is tongue in cheek, about how great such and such drummer is. Dave is probably my favorite - a monster technician and musician behind the kit and will be one of the guys that future generations will revere the way we refer to Krupa and Rich.

I think actually that comment was made to me by one of my drum instructors when I said something half hearted about Billy Cobham making me want to quit. Of course, he didn't really make me want to quit; he inspired me to play better, but that's just something us mere mortals say. It was his way of saying that no matter how good someone is, they can only play one gig at a time and there were an awful lot of gigs to be had out there, so no sense in backing down. Persevere. More than anything, it was also a lighthearted joke and was certainly intended as such.

I felt the same way the first time I heard Billy Cobham. It really blew my mind hearing him and guys like Lenny White and Michael Walden. It really raised the bar for me and I wish I had just a smidge of their talent~!

Glenn.
