I picked up this drum over a year or so ago on ebay to convert it to a kick and complete a partial Ludwig super classic kit I was given. I'm finally getting around to finishing it.

It's a blue sparkle 24"x14" blue olive badge 3 ply shell with granitone interior drilled for 10 small lugs on one side. It had two slot style mounts and I'm pretty sure it was mounted on a stand or a harness as a field/concert bass drum.
There is a slight out of round on area on the reso side, and it looks like the reinforcement ring on the reso side was routered/lathed improperly from the factory (slightly visible in the pic). Maybe Ludwig used slightly imperfect shells for education/concert/marching drums?
Does anyone know much else about these drums? I've hear them called "gongs", "timp" or "tymp" toms, but I'm not sure which one is correct.
