Any Leedy & Ludwig experts? Last viewed: 9 minutes ago

Hi! First post to this great site and forum:)

I have a question on my Leedy & Ludwig 5 x 14 "The Reliance" mahogany finish snare drum.

I bought it about 25 years ago (great sound, no cracks, original all the way around) and I've always noticed the small stamped number on the inside of the shell, "5406" but when I was doin' my standard care just recently I noticed another, very light, larger numbers (about an inch in height) on the inner shell. It is hard to make them out but with a small flashlight just laying on the surface of the shell the numbers are "48838"

What are they? Also is the "5406" a serial number or date stamp? 06/54?

Thanks for any help! Help2

Thanks! So the small stamp IS the date stamp 06/54 and I'm guessing the other large numbers "48838" are the serial numbers?

your correct on the 5406 the other numbers aren't serial numbers, I've never figured these other numbers out, and I've owned alot of conn era drums have a ludwig ludwig kit now. I think they where maybe the lot number for the factory or something??

Leedy & Ludwig didn't have a serial number system,(nor did Leedy or L&L before them). Non of my Leedy & Ludwig drums had anything other than a date stamp.

Photos might help determine what they are.

Yea, all the study I've ever done about the L&L drums they didn't have serial numbers. So, I'm guessing the big 1' tall numbers probably are shell lot numbers or just lot numbers for something???

Great drum anyway, it has a very nice pocket sound... can't believe these were made for just schools :-)

I'll take a couple of pics and upload them at imagebam and put them on.

Like I wrote, I have had this drum for about 25 years and I never noticed the large, lightly sprayed on? 1" large numbers until just recently.

You might take a flashlight and checkout your drums to see if you have any you've missed too :)
