Any tips on how to keep my Ludwig 1123 Hi Hat from slipping? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

I LOVE my Ludwig 1123 Spur Lock Hi Hat stand but lately the bottom tube that supports the lower hat cymbal keeps slipping no matter how hard I tension the wing nut. I am sure this has been tackled by more than a few of you out there. Any tips to keep it from slipping? Would love to hear what you guys have come up with. Thanks!

Does it have the factory hose clamp thingy on the top tube? That is (was) there to help prevent that slippage from happening.

Go down to Ace Hardware and get a hose clamp. They work great and are very low cost.

This is what the originals look like, although any sort of hose clamp, or memory lock for a 5/8ths inch tube (ebay # 222413979273 ) , will work.

+1 with what has already been said about the clamp. Still, I've had many Ludwig, Rogers and Slingerland stands which are all basically the same in regards to the upper post, and not a single one of them has slipped from not having a clamp on them. Makes me wonder if there is another issue here. However, that clamp will keep the upper tube from slipping.

Ha! Take away my Guru status right now! I just noticed I do have the original clamp and it was somehow pushed up to the very top of the tube and I did not see it! I have played vintage shells for quite some time now but have really just started to appreciate the hardware and apperarently still have some learning to do! Thanks again!

Mystery solved! Glad you got it sorted out. Enjoy your 1123-1 hi hat!

Those are amazing stands . I use one regularly and made it function even better from some advise on the drum forums by just switching out the spring to one a bit stiffer and the action is perfect now .

Warning ... Avoid member statuscymbal here, vintage_collector on DFO , and americanpatriot10 on eBay. Email me for his name. All are the same shady guy who has burned me and a list of other members on both boards . He is also selling on Facebook too ..

Tough to beat the 1123, 1123-1 or 1124 for feel. The 1124 was "adjustable" but the adjustment wheel doesn't seem to do much no matter how much you turn it. Generally it shares the same excellent feel as the 1123-1 (they use the same spring). I used to figure it was just me but so many other people have echoed that these have the perfect feel that it seems Ludwig got these just right.
