I am thinkin' about switching to a hoop mount for my 58 Clubdates, but would like to know if any others gig with the hoop mount. My heavy hitting days were over about 25 yrs ago so that is not an issue.I had a new nickle rail so I installed it about 8 yrs ago.The fellow who recovered my 66 clubdates says he can do the job easy enough. My daughter will sell the drums when I am gone so I wont worry about that aspect of WRAP OR RE-WRAP.REPAIRS OR NO REPAIRS ......v

I play with the hoop mounts all the time on my giging kits and love them. The ONLY complaint I have with them is the if you use a multiple rack tom set up it is difficult to get the drums real close to each other. I like my drums very close and tight when I play and would normaly have the rims of each drum almoszt touching. With the rims it puts the rims abour 2.5 inches apart from each other. I know this doesn't sound like much but it is enough to make a slight difference in the way you play around the kit.

Does your question refer to a REAL hoop mount? The kind of old fashioned piece of hardware that connects the tom to the HOOP of the bass drum? That's the way I interpreted it. RIMS style of suspension mounts are not hoop mounts. I have this one that I plan to use for my next orphan drum rehab project. This is a pretty rare Rogers Knobby mount from the Swivomatic hardware era.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

I am confused as well. I was thinking we were talking about hoop mounts?

If you are talking about RIMS style mounts, I use them all the time and it does not matter if you are a heavy hitter or not. I like them a lot and you can always take them off for photos or reselling so there is no degradation in drum value.

If you are talking about actual hoop mounts, my personal thought is that would be best left for display and photo purposes for period correct usage. I don't think I would use one for actual playing if there was another option available. That is asking an awful lot of your hoops plus it is yet another place to scar up your hoops along with the kick pedal a d the occasional cowbell/woodblock mount.

i use them on three of my ludwig kits. they are very sturdy and were used like this for years by many drummers. the only spot that you would ever need to be concerned about slipping is on the hoop itself. all of the other points have those teeth that mesh together. they don't move. ive not had mine move on the hoop either though. plus, that adjustment is right in front of you in case you wanted to keep an eye on it. i love 'em!
