I just picked-up a 14x14 Ludwig FT. It is from the mid-60's and the heads were junk. When I replaced the heads, I noticed that there is a loose spot in the head at the bearing edge. I can get it tuned fairly well at a high pitch but that's not the sound I'm looking for. Does that sound like a bearing edge re-cut candidate? Any ideas? Who does this kind of work? Thanx in advance.

Lay it on a flat surface. Do you see light thru the area where there was looseness ?
If so, then the edge needs to be planed and leveled, then recut.
Now, if it were my drum... I would do it myself, and get a close proximity to the original edge profile.
But it's not my drum...it's yours...so if you want a true reproduction of the original edge spot-on....contact Gary at precisiondrum.com. He would be my suggestion.
They do drumshell modifications incredibly cheaply...albeit with their great reputation they could be charging a lot more than they do.
