Dont use any tools, try some mild cleaners like the graffiti remover or a mild paint stripper. If it come off easy maybe even just soap and water and elbow grease. No abrasives or steel wool! That paint more that likely preserved the finish, be careful and take you time, test small areas with what ever your using before diving into the whole shell. You could have some real gems on your hands.

A little lacquer thinner will make short work of that paint and will not harm any of the chrome just watch out for the fumes.

No kidding! I have that and I'll try tonight. When I mentioned a tool, I was thinking of one of those cloth-type wheels that wouldn't damage it and only strip that layer off. I tried paint thinner the other night but didn't think of lacquer thinner. Like most people I have a handful of different chemicals but don't know the ins and outs of each. Thanks for the tip. Brian
Just a follow-up...the lacquer thinner makes quick work of the spray paint just like you said, John. I just need to wait until I can do this outside because the fumes are insane. Thanks again for the suggestion. In the meantime, any educated guesses on the sale value here?
What are the sizes and are they complete? Any missing pieces?
How much are you asking for them?
I'll get the sizes tonight. As for what I'm asking, I honestly have not a clue.
Have you tried looking at ebay completed listings? That a pretty good start anyway. They should be worth some good money but I would clean them up first before I talk price, who knows what it will look like. I sure love my kit!
Thank you!

I have the sizes: 9x12, 10x13, 16x16, (2) 16x20.
If you remove the hardware before cleaning...and I would, be sure to tape off the holes from the inside.
You do not want paint-infused thinner to get inside the shells :):)
I also, would love to see them post-paint-removal.
As stated before, the paint may have preserved the finish.
