Its a new one to me.It came in today with alot of parts.I have never seen one of these before. All the parts that came with the load are all 1970'-80's parts.Could this be from that time? The only marking on the pedal is "Black Max" Made in the U.S.A.....Mikey

The Black Max was distributed for a short time by XL Specialty (the case company) in the late '80s, maybe 1990. I vaguely recall that the inventor wanted to start handling it himself, took it back from XL, and that was the last anyone heard of it. It has a few extra adjustments, and an interesting cam/pulley thing going on with the main spring. Instead of a chain, the beater cam is pulled by a rubber-ish strap a la a fan belt. Same for the linkage that wraps around the spring tension cams.

I haven't played mine in 20 years, I remember thinking it was really smooth at the time, but it never replaced the DW 5000 I was using, so it couldn't have been that amazing. Definitely a rarity though, I don't think I've ever seen another one.

WOW,I like to collect pedals and this is a new one to me. Kinda like a Calato Regal or that French pedal, that is very smooth and fast as the breeze. How about some more views of the pedal,Thank You,V

Hard to say what it's worth, it's really more of a collector's item/curiosity than a pedal someone would be thrilled using. I'd think $50-100 tops. You can see where it goes on ebay, that's your widest access to a potential buyer. I'd put a $60 reserve just to be safe.
