If I got it cheap, and it sounded tons better than the Astro set, I might keep it, if it was usable without a large additional investment.
Ah ha...there's the rub, as they say. These drums will probably sound great without much work at all. Unless there's some structural problem (destroyed bearing edges, cracked shells, etc.) that isn't obvious in the photos, good heads and tuning may be all you need to create a great sounding vintage kit. It's only because of the cosmetic issues that they wouldn't be as valuable or desirable on the vintage drum market. But they'd probably make a helluva player's kit, especially if you like vintage jazz / blues / R&B sounds.
FWIW, your valuation estimates look about right to me.
