Anyone see John Densmore on Jimmy Fallen? Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Loading...

Densmore wrote a book about the Doors and he was on Fallon the other night. It was very disappointing. He played Roadhouse Blues, with Fallen singing lead vocals, but it was cut short. He was never one of those drummers who blew the doors off the place but Anyway - my question is this. He was playing Ludwig's and I thought I remembered him playing Gretsch. Now i've found severs pics of him playing Luddy's.

Any of you old guys remember what he played? What's he playing in this picture?

I can't stand Fallen, I never ever watch him !After you've seen Carson, why watch a bunch of late night hacks??, they have No talent.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Like him or hate him - I cannot imagine other drummer on "light my fire" or "riders on the storm"...

He is pictured with a 20/12/14 B&B lugs rogers kit with supra snare.

Before Orange Mod I saw him on some pics behind silver downbeats.

Gotta disagree with you Mark, Jimmy Fallon has an akwardness that I find amusing. I like Craig Ferguson immensely and think they are both funny, but Carson was the catalyst. He's like no other.....

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

That pic of John is probably on a backline set for a show. When he joined the Doors in 1965 he was using a 20,12,14 WMP Gretsch which he used on the first and third album(Not sure about the second).

He got a 20,12,14 downbeat Mod Orange Ludwig just prior to going on the Ed Sullivan show in sep 1967 and used that set alternately until the Doors untimely ending. Another downbeat in WMP was aquired in early 1968 and used in conjustion with the mod orange set. Most notably the WMP set was used at the Singer bowl in Aug 1968. The were also used on the trip to Europe in 1968 and I think the last album. For the tour of 1970, John got a Ludwig standard single six set up and used that on the last tour. Most notably at the Isle of Wight and the very last Doors concert ever. John used a supraphonic from the beggining with the Doors and played a keystone badge one right until the end. Not sure how many of them he had though.

Late night TV existed before Johnny and continues since his departure, there is no question he reinvented - and in many ways created the genre. He is undoubtedly the king! He brought a certain class while remaining creative, funny irreverent, and racy. He could communicate volumes with a smile, a smirk, a hand gesture (golf swing), or just the twinkle in his eye.

With that said, I am addicted to late night TV so I watch all the shows except Letterman. I used to watch Letterman religiously when he was on after Carson but in the last few years he's become stale, repetitive, bitter, and highly political - all things Johnny never did.

There have been a lot of great drummers on late night TV - Shelly Manne, Ed Shaughnessy, Louie Bellson, Steve Jordan, Anton Fig, Max Weinberg, Questlove, etc.

And you get to see them every night. In addition often good guest bands.
