Anyone Seen a 70's era blue oyster snare before? Last viewed: 7 hours ago

Well another question!LoLoLoLo

I've been talking to my dad a lot more about drums since joining here. He told me hes never seen a blue oyster pearl snare from the 70's. He ordered a supra-phonic when he bought his kit back in 74, and said almost everyone else did the same.

Anyone personally seen one? The only thing I could find was a re-wrap. If that's all that is out there, perhaps one way I could get him one is to order a shell off a bass drum and have it put on a snare? Any thoughts?

Thanks for all your help guys!

There were BOP snares in the 70's. However, The Blue Oyster pearl of the 70's was different from the BOP of the 60's. The lines of color had widened, & it became known as "Bowling Ball BOP". (I prefer the 70's design & colors over the earlier version)

Thanks for this info. His set is indeed the bowling ball wrap. Set was made in 72, and bought brand new in 74.

I'll keep after him to get it set up for me to take a pic of it all.

He's the type when it comes to tools/drums whatever to keep it in excellent condition. They've been in there original hard cases unless he is using them for a show or he will sometimes set them up in the basement, but he has a few smaller kits he plays for ease of set up too.

I recall seeing one or two in the book, Ludwig: Yesterday and Today by Paolo Sburlati.

I used to have a 69 keystone badge bowling ball blue kit. That era and the early B/O badge era had some great sounding drums.
