Hi Folks,
today I bought a 28,8 inch basis drum, probably 60s, maybe 50s. It had calf skin heads in good condition, the wrap was without damage, except the strip of wrap on the metal hoop (some water damage). Brand is Van Der Glas, a dutch brand, mostly of marhing drums for as far as I know. Maple about 8 mm. With beech reinforcement rings.
I'll upload pics soon.
Q1: I paid 25 Euro, about 40 bucks. Anybody an idea what the drum is worth?
Q2: I plan on trying playing it in my band (70s rock) on accasion. Anybody an idea on how to get it to sound not so boomy? the bearing edges are very round, maybe changing them to sharper? Does this go with the used calf heads? It will be expensive to by new heads, they will have to be custom made, thats not an option. Would it be an option to make it less deep? It is 24 inch deep now! Somewhere I read that bigger drums ought to be less deep to keep attack.
By the way, I m new here.
Best,
