I added the L-arm cymbal mount to my Ludwig 20" downbeat set. I'm using a Zildjian 18" sizzle sans rivets, as a ride/crash, 50's - 60's vintage, midweight. When I'm riding it, it sets up a heck of a vibration through the bass, almost like it's ringing right down the arm. I'm going to add another felt under the cymbal, already have two up, two down. Is this normal? Any thoughts? I was going for the original look for my '67, and the holes were already there for the mount. Thanks.

Does your center post have a good rubber insulation so the cymbal is not touching metal ? I always use clear tubing from Home Depot on all my cymbal posts. You might even try some thick softer felt cymbal washers. These 2 things should help mitigate the transfer of energy.

You could also cut a simple rubber gasket for the mount as it fits to the bass. That would help. Ludwig and many many others did this later on in the manufacturing biz.
