I thought I'd share the way I put Badges on Drums. I just finished Converting my 77' 14 X 10 Ludwig Butcher Block Concert Tom into a tom. I'm still waiting for a couple of parts to come in so I decided to put the badge back on. First I clean all the old adhesive off the back then put on a piece of TESA double sided tape. I then rolled the badge flat using a fairly thick piece of dowel on a flat surface. I then cut the tape away from the hole, remove the backing, took another piece of dowel the size as the air hole in the drum. Stuck it in the hole, slid the badge down the dowel to the shell, Made sure in was straight then pushed it on with my hands. Now your probably saying "tell us something we don't know".
To keep the badge from lifting I came up with this little tool using pieces of an old drum shell. I had this old 14 X 10 TAMA shell that was broken in a couple of places. I cut 2 sections out of the shell just a little bigger than the B/O Badge. Then drilled a hole right through the 2 pieces. Once I was done I put one piece on the outside over the badge, and the other on the inside. Slid a bolt through, and put on a washer and nut. Then I tightened it with a wrench, just snugged it actually and left in over night. The next day I take the badge clamp off and the badge should be flat against the shell. At least that's how it worked in the past. And that's the way I've been doing it.
The pieces of shell you use have to be from the same size drum the badge is going on. And cut up cheap or broken beyond repair shells. Don't use good ones LOL!!!!
pretty works with any badge the grommet goes through.
Here's pics of this tool I use.
I'll post more pics tomorrow once the clamp is off.
